Taking our "Trees For Our Planet" reforestation project to the next level

Trees are a powerful force in the fight against climate change, but 10 million hectares of forest are cut down each year. Our teams planted 10,000 trees for the #TreesForOurPlanet project in 2021 – and we have now set new targets for 2022 and beyond.

Since 1990, the world has lost 420 million hectares of forest – an area larger than India. Even today, deforestation still destroys about 10 million hectares of trees per year, which is an area roughly the size of Iceland.* This is a major problem for our planet because trees play an incredibly important role in tackling climate change. A single tree removes an average of 10 kilograms of carbon dioxide from the air each year. To support reforestation, Grünenthal launched the #TreesForOurPlanet initiative in 2021. It aimed to mark our 75-year anniversary by planting 7,500 trees worldwide.

Our teams joined forces to go far beyond that target, planting 10,033 trees in 2021. This achievement was made possible by the collective spirit and passion for the planet that make Grünenthal unique. Now, we want to take this success to the next level and make an even bigger positive contribution to the environment by planting at least 30,000 trees in the next five years. We aim to plant 7,600 trees in 2022. Everyone in our global team is invited to get involved in group and individual activities. Together, we can make a long-lasting positive impact on the planet.

Our reforestation initiative is a visible indication of how we live up to our sustainability commitments every day – and join together to help protect our planet’s precious ecosystem for future generations.

Since 2012, the United Nations has marked the International Day of Forests to celebrate and raise awareness of the importance of all types of forests.
